1. Take your time! Many of us are so accustomed to eating as fast as possible without ever putting the fork down. Try putting your fork down between bites and give your digestive system time to catch up!
2. Chew thoroughly! Why not make the digestion process easier for your body by breaking down your food as much as possible from the get-go. By not chewing enough, this could lead to bloat and stomach discomfort.
3. Eat until you are 80% full! This is a practice done by the Okinawans in Okinawa, Japan called ‘Hara Hachi Bu’ where they remind themselves of this before beginning a meal. Okinawa has the highest percentage of centenarians in the world! This will reduce overeating, weight gain and bloat.
4. Drink warm lemon water before meals. This will aid in digestion by helping your body break down food faster. If you need to drink water during meals, I recommend small sips to not dilute stomach acids that are helping you to digest food.
5. Take a few deep breaths before meals to help get into a relaxed state which will help to promote better digestion. Rest and digest!
